Performance problems
Our client is maintaining a dating portal developed by outsourcing to India. The portal has become popular on the other hand very unstable with numerous performance problems. System administrators have done the best to optimise 7 servers serving the portal to prevent the system from crash. Although it is possible to do a lot by optimisation of the servers, with 2000 queries to the database every second system administrators were helpless. Our experts have put an huge effort and results were impressive. Database server was 80% of 8 hours peak time in a critical status. After the database and mainly application optimisation the same server is in the critical status less that 2% of the peak time. E-commerce catalogue project
Our client is providing webdesign services for end customers. His customers come back with new requirements every day. The most common requirement is a web based catalogue system and e-commerce shopping cart. We have designed and built a website catalogue system with advanced functionalities including an ordering system integrating a shopping cart and online payment card transactions. More important is that the catalogue system is multi-instance, therefore our client can easily configure new e-commerce site for new customer in less then two hours. Back office system
A recruiting agency, customer of our client came with a requirement of monitoring, reporting and approving work of temporary workers. The system is secured and used as back office system, though, has been put online to be accessible from a working place of temporary employees and managers. Building project on existing projects
Community portal - it is a project combining a web site presentation of a business estate, directory of companies and product listing show case. The client is using 3 different existing applications; CGI system to build static html presentations, Londondir.com - a directory of London based companies and e-commerce catalogue system. We have accomplished the project by combining functionality of the 3 mentioned different systems, by building cross database connections and by little changes in functionality we have been able to finish the community portal in very short time. Background update of third party systems
A lot of companies are using third party web sites to promote their services or sell products. The same way a recruitment agency - customer of our client works. Their main way to recruit is to advertise, consequently they have to update own website, advertising portal and to email job lists to a newspaper. Not anymore. We have developed background service doing this work. Now when anyone in the agency adds or updates any job on their website, the system connects automatically to a third party server and updates job immediately within a second. The same is happening with an old way working newspaper requiring a listing of jobs in a text form. This is automatically generated and emailed in the background as required. Importing services
A big problem of web based portals is to provide to customers easy way to update their listing. The same problem has our client's marine portal boat-finder.com. Time consuming updating of boats with pictures is causing less updates and less usage of the system. We have done maximum to simplify listing updates by 3 types of imports. The customers having their boats on a computer in the office in any form of a database or excel sheet can use BF direct a windows application to export boats including automatically resized pictures to boat-finder.com server. For the second group of customers who have got their own web site using a database can be configured Direct DB import on boat-finder.com side. Direct import is periodically updating listing of customers including pictures automatically. The last group are customers who have got own website only with a static html listing or who advertise on other marine portals. These customers' listings are updated by Spider import which is automatically gathering data and pictures from third party system or their website over the internet. [more about]
